Our series of articles dedicated to the ongoing projects at Disneyland Paris comes to an end. Today we will talk merchandising. A topic that I had already discussed on this blog because I very rarely find things I want on the overflowing stalls of Disneyland Paris.

According to DLP officials, things are changing on this field. We had the opportunity to meet Mr. Régis Alart, former Disneyland Paris Ambassador 2011-2012 and now Product Manager Collectibles. He spoke to us with great enthusiasm about two distinct projects.

The first one is a full range of products inspired by Phantom Manor. While most items have originally been created for the American versions, some of them have been specifically designated or adapted to the characteristics of the European attraction, such as t-shirts, snow globe or drink coasters inspired by the tombs of the Boot Hill graveyard. Limited edition smartphones cases should also arrive very soon.

The complete collection will include statues, hourglass, music box, photo frame, snow globes, wine bottle stopper, chandelier, blanket, cushion, mini poster, t-shirts and coasters. This should be in store by the end of the year in the main boutique of Frontierland. According to Mr. Alart, visitors like this new range of products and other attraction inspired collections should follow if this first line is a success.

If you ask me, I’ll be even more happy when they’ll sell more sober t-shirts. I also took this opportunity to tell Mr. Alart that I wish they reuse the original EuroDisney logo for a range of clothes with a lovely vintage and nostalgic feel, or products designed by the incredibly talented artists Kevin Kidney & Jody Daily and/or our European folk David Goebel. Régis Alart told me he knows and loves them very much, which – in addition to being an indisputable evidence of good taste – allows me to cross my fingers that my wish will finally come true, one day…

The second project will answer a demand almost as old as Disneyland Paris itself: the ability to purchase DLP famous attraction posters. The Art of Disney on Demand allows you to order paper posters or canvas (printed) paintings on demand through touch screens. You choose the visual of your choice in the following categories: Attraction Posters (Disneyland Paris), Animated Shorts Posters, Story Sketches, Winnie The Pooh, Mickey Mouse Weeklies, Pincesses, Disney Artists, Disney Classic Movies, Pictures of Walt Disney. Then you specify if you want it as a paper poster or on canvas; you define the size you want; you can select a few options (frame etc.); then you pay and your precious will come to your house in two to three weeks! According to different formats and options of your choice, prices can vary from from € 17.99 to € 230 + shipping.

According to Mr. Alart, the system will soon include a selection of visuals from Walt Disney Imagineering. The Art of Disney on Demand has existed for many years in the U.S. Disney parks. At Disneyland Paris you will find it in the Art of Disney store in Disney Village. Other outlets should follow if the experiment is successful.

We should welcome and encourage this type of merchandising initiatives that highlight the specificities of Disneyland Paris. It’s pretty rare in DLP and it’s a true step in the right direction! Thanks to the friendly Mr Régis Alart for his availability and more generally, I’d like to thank to the people behind the “What’s New What’s Next” event that aimed to highlight various projects going on at Disneyland Paris.
